What's Involved?

The panel of the excellent BAe146-300 Air New Zealand aircraft model developed by Jon Murchison has been slightly 'tweaked' here in order to provide the pilot with additional FS2002 icon buttons which are missing on the original panel.

The following panel icon buttons have been introduced:

* A 'Kneeboard' button to call up the Checklist, Notepad etc.

* A 'ATC' button to call up the ATC transparent communications window.

* A 'Flight Map' button to call up the Flight Map.

* A 'Avionics' button to call up the Avionics panel.

* A 'Magnetic Compass' button to call up the Compass at the top of the forward view window.

The positioning of the 'GPS' window has also been changed so that the window does not cover the icon button when activated - this prevents the pilot closing the GPS window with the icon button without first moving/undocking the window!

Similarly, the BAe146-300 'Checklist' has been restyled and a new aircraft 'Reference Information' pad created, both of which comply with FS2002's 'Kneeboard' window format.

Installation:

If you have successfully unzipped the compressed file 'anz146up.zip' into a temporary folder then you will have the following files:

File_id.diz - Upload ID file.
anz146upd.doc - This file.
Readme.txt - A text format file of anz146upd.doc.
Panel.cfg - Modified panel configuration file.
Aircraft.cfg - Modified aircraft configuration file.
Bae146-300_check.txt - Bae146-300 Checklist in FS2002 window format.
Bae146-300_notes.txt - Bae146-300 Notepad in FS2002 window format.
Bae146-300_ref.txt - Bae146-300 Reference Information pad in FS2002 window format.
146Panel_upd.jpg - JPEG image of a section of the modified panel.

1. Make a copy of your original aircraft BAE146-300 aircraft.cfg file [found under FS2002\aircraft\Bae1463\ folder] and then simply overwrite (copy/paste) the modified aircraft.cfg file into the panel folder.

2. Place the Bae146-300_check.txt, Bae146-300_notes.txt, and Bae146-300_ref.txt files into the same folder.

3. Make a copy of your original aircraft BAE146-300 panel.cfg file [found under FS2002\aircraft\Bae1463\panel folder] and then simply overwrite (copy/paste) the modified panel.cfg file into the panel folder.

When you next start FS2002 and select this aircraft from the aircraft menu, the panel modifications should be apparent. If you don't like the modifications then simply overwrite the *.cfg. files with your original backup copies. You may delete or leave the other files without causing a problem.

Acknowledgement:

Thanks go to Jon Murchison (e-mail: jonmurchison@hotmail.com) for designing and uploading the original freeware aircraft with its 'IS Technology' static scenery features and panel. For those wishing to fly Jon's aircraft, it can be downloaded from 'SurClaro' as the compressed zip file, 146_2k2.zip.

On a personal note FS2002 software has a large number of irritating 'bugs', which with the help of 3rd party developers and FS2002 Forums is helping the 'flight sim' community to remove at least some of them. As to whether Microsoft will bring out a 'patch' later in the year is anyone's guess - let's hope so, for FS2002 flight simulator is the best so far!
